Litterpick and games on Somersall ParkWe had an excellent evening on Friday 6th June 2008 down on Somersall Park. About 25 helpers, including two of our local councillors, turned up to be involved in a litterpick and in providing some activities to engage the teens hanging around the park. The evening was organised with our local police officer, PC Randell, and youth leaders at WEC initially as a way to provide diversions for the teens on the park, but also to start bridging the gap between church, teens and police. Within about 15 minutes a great game of football was up and running at one end of the park, alongside a smaller game of non-stop cricket. Litterpicking equipment for the evening was supplied by Spire Pride and was used to great effect. We don't know what the park looked like on Saturday morning, but for a brief period on Friday evening it was spotless! The extra adults involved in the litterpick also meant that the games could be carried out safely with a large adult presence on the park. God answered prayer in a big way for the evening - enough volunteers, the rain held off, there were teenagers about to get involved in the games, but yet at the end everyone naturally dispersed and most left the park. Above all, the games and the litterpick were carried out safely. We hope to run further events like this on the park in the future.
